Sentinel Asbestos provides BOHS P402-qualified asbestos surveyors across West London and the Home Counties, working from a base in Uxbridge with UKAS-accredited laboratory analysis behind every sample. Same or next-day visits are usually available, with the written report and asbestos register typically issued within 24–48 hours of the survey.
What to check before you hire
Asbestos surveying is a competence-based trade with a wide quality spread, and a weak report is worse than no report because it creates false confidence. Six checks separate the two.
A UKAS-accredited laboratory
Samples must be analysed by a laboratory holding UKAS accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025. Ask which laboratory is used and insist the certificates are included in the report — an unaccredited result is not evidence.
BOHS P402 (or equivalent)
The person attending should hold the BOHS P402 Certificate in Building Surveys and Bulk Sampling for Asbestos, or a proficiency qualification of equivalent standing. Ask for the certificate number, not just a logo on a van.
The right insurance
Public liability alone is not enough. Professional indemnity is what responds if a material is missed, and asbestos work carries a long liability tail.
The right survey type
A good surveyor asks what you are planning before quoting. If building work is coming, you need an intrusive refurbishment & demolition survey, not the cheaper management survey.
A sample report
Ask to see a redacted example. It should contain a register, marked-up plans or a photo schedule, risk scores and a plain list of anything not accessed.
No pressure to remove
Much asbestos is safest left undisturbed and managed. Be wary of anyone who arrives at a survey already quoting for removal.
